2026 OXI DAY CELEBRATION

Honoring the Unsung Heroes at Sea

Throughout World War II, Greek merchant seafarers helped sustain the Allied war effort, serving across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Their service came at a devastating cost in ships and human lives.

This OXI Day, join HCC-SW for an evening of remembrance dedicated to these often-overlooked heroes and the families who waited for their return.

Program Highlights

• A documentary honoring the wartime contribution of the Hellenic Merchant Marine.
• Readings from interviews with survivors.
• Readings from postcards sent to families through the International Red Cross.
• A remembrance of merchant ships lost with no survivors.
• The postwar revival of Greek shipping and the role of American-built Liberty ships.
